HEPS 2025 CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
You are invited to join the 8th Triennial International Conference on Healthcare Systems Ergonomics and Patient Safety - HEPS2025 - in Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, 18 – 20 June 2025, and contribute by submitting an abstract for an oral presentation or a poster presentation.

CONFERENCE TOPICS
The Scientific Committee of HEPS 2025 invites abstracts describing original and high-quality research or practices on all aspects of Human Factors Ergonomics (HFE) in healthcare for oral or poster presentations. The Healthcare Systems Ergonomics and Patient Safety (HEPS) 2025 conference, takes place from the 18-20 June in Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, and provides a global platform for the exchange of knowledge, shared resources and technological innovation driving all aspects of healthcare safety.

HEPS 2025 addresses patient safety, optimisation of system performance, human wellbeing, healthcare ergonomics, access and equity with contributions from the HFE discipline, all healthcare professions (those working in any aspect of healthcare), blending tradition and advances in the application of physical, cognitive, organisational and system HFE.
​
Endorsed by the International Ergonomics Association (IEA), HEPS 2025 welcomes an innovative, dynamic and applied agenda, to highlight the latest research, industry insights, challenges and developments in HFE in healthcare, including stakeholder engagement. HEPS 2025 will bring together patients and public partners, HFE academics and practitioners, policymakers, regulators all with the aim of developing ‘Safer Better Healthcare, by All for All’.

HOW TO SUBMIT
Abstracts should be submitted through the abstract submission portal. Abstracts should include the following:
1) Title
2) Author(s): name(s) and affiliation(s)
Abstract (max. 500 words): Summarise the major aspects of your study, including: A) Introduction with the overall purpose of the study and the research problem(s) you investigated; B) Methods with the design of the study; C) Results noting the major findings of your study or the key points about a work in progress; and D) Discussion including a brief summary of your interpretations and implications for practice.
3) References (optional): 3 references max., APA 7 standard
4) Method of presentation: Indicate the preferred method of presentation (oral presentation of 15 minutes or poster presentation)
5) Please select the theme of the session most suited to your presentation.
Abstracts should not exceed 500 words, references excluded. Your abstract should be submitted in English. Pictures, tables and figures are not allowed. Only abstracts submitted through the submission portal will be considered for review and publication in the conference proceedings.
REVIEW PROCEDURE
Abstracts will be double-blind peer reviewed by two reviewers. In case of doubt, a third reviewer will be consulted.
Each abstract will be reviewed on 5 criteria:
- Alignment with the themes of the conference
- Interest for attendees
- Originality of the submission
- Scientific rigour
- Practical application
- Submission clarity

Please include sufficient detail in your abstract to allow for evaluation. The final decision on acceptance for oral or poster presentation will be taken by the HEPS Scientific Committee, based on the reviewers' recommendations.
If your abstract is accepted for presentation (by either poster or oral presentation), your acceptance remains contingent on at least one of the authors being registered to attend and present at the conference. The presenting author should be registered at least 3 months before the conference begins, in order to ensure you are included in the conference programme.
You will be notified of abstract acceptance no later than 30th November 2024. Please note early bird registration fee will close on 31st January 2025. Register now to avail of the early bird rate.

If your paper is accepted for either oral or poster presentation you will also have the option of submitting a full paper.
Full papers are published by Springer as a book of proceedings.
